GCSE & A-level · Wimbledon & online
Confidence before the exam, not after it
GCSE and A-level maths tuition in Wimbledon or online. Most of my students arrive convinced they are bad at maths. Almost none of them are.
What I teach
GCSE maths
Foundation and higher, all boards. Past papers marked with the examiner’s mark scheme, not a vague tick.
A-level maths
Pure, mechanics and statistics, including the step up from GCSE that catches most students out.
Online or in person
Wimbledon on weekday evenings, online any time. Same price either way.
I’m James, and I used to hate maths too
Twelve years teaching, seven of them as head of maths at a comprehensive in south London. DBS checked, references from parents available on request.
The first lesson is free because you should not have to pay to find out whether your child gets on with someone.
Lessons and prices
Paid monthly, after the lessons have happened. There’s no package to buy up front.
Single lesson
£40 per hour
Online or in person, weekday evenings and Saturdays.
Exam season
£150 five lessons
In the run-up to mocks or finals, on the topics that need it most.
Small group
£25 each, per hour
Up to three students, for siblings or friends in the same year.
How it starts
-
A free trial lesson
An hour on whatever is worrying them most, so they leave with one thing that finally makes sense.
-
A short plan for you
An email afterwards: where they are, what to work on first, and how many lessons I’d suggest.
-
A note after every lesson
Two or three lines on what we covered and what to practise, so you’re never left guessing.
Questions parents ask
Online or in person: which is better?
For most students it makes no difference. Online works well at A-level; younger students often prefer to start in person.
What if my child doesn’t get on with you?
Then you’ve lost nothing. The first lesson is free so that you can find out.
Do you set homework?
A little: one set of past-paper questions a week, marked before the next lesson.
Which exam boards do you cover?
AQA, Edexcel and OCR, at GCSE and A-level.
Term-time spaces are limited
I take twelve students at a time so that everyone gets marked work back the same week.
